Maranatha High School
Pasadena High School
The Lady Minutemen had opening match jitters as they laid a goose egg in the first round of play, going 0-6. It’s not that they were blown out – they had leads deep into three of their sets; but they were tight and could not close them out. Two of the opening round losses went 4-6 and two went 5-7. The Lady MInutemen eventually settled down and went 6-6 with the Bulldogs in the final two rounds.
After struggling and losing their opening round, 4-6, the #2 doubles team of Rose Zhang and Michael Wilkins bounced back and found their groove, dominating their final two sets, 6-2 and 6-0 . #1 singles, Angela Hsieh, also bounced back after a very shaky first set and a half, eventually coming around for 7-5 and 6-1 victories in her final two rounds.
Freshman, Malena Smith made her debut winning her first set of many as a Lady Minuteman, 6-2. #1 doubles veterans, Reagan Atallah and Madelyn Hernandez pulled out their last set of the day, 7-6(4).
Maranatha plays its next match away against Mayfield on Friday.
