Today’s match between the top and bottom teams of the league concluded the second round of Olympic League play. With one more round to go, the Lady Minutemen are in the driver’s seat to claim their 5th league championship in 6 years. With their next league victory, they will secure at least a share of the title.
#1 singles, Angela Hsieh, secured her fourth consecutive triple “bagel,” going 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, while #2 singles, Malena Smith, also swept convincingly, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. Starting in singles for the first time, sub Shuhan Yang split her sets, 6-1, 1-6. MHS’s other regular sub, Natalie Song, lost her first-ever singles match, 2-6.
Doubles had a clean sweep today, with #1 doubles, Maddie Hernandez/Michael Wilkins, dominating, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. #2 doubles, Hellen Hong/Stella Wang went 6-1, 6-2. Injured Rose Zhang subbed in for Hong in the final set , coming away with a 6-4 victory. The newly formed doubles team of Reagan Atallah/Aria Haver-Hill plowed through their opponents, 6-0, 6-4, 6-1.
Hsieh, Smith, and Hernandez/Wilkins all remain undefeated in league play thus far, each boasting an 18-0 record.
Next up for MHS will be Valley Christian, the final showdown of the league’s top two teams.
