In the final away game of the 2018 regular season, Maranatha traveled to Cerritos to play the Valley Christian Crusaders. These two teams have history, and Valley was looking to play the spoiler to the Maranatha run at an undefeated conference record. That looked to be the case, when the Crusaders played a ball through the Maranatha back line, and scored in the opening five minutes of play. Valley again found the net in the thirtieth minute off a long throw-in. At the break the score was 2-0, in favor of the Crusaders. After the restart, the Minutemen went to work, probing for a weakness in the Valley defense. That moment finally arrived with just seven minutes left in regulation, when senior captain Chris Morales found his co-captain Michael Antonovich on a three pass buildup. The senior striker and leading goal scorer for the Minutemen deftly beat the final defender and keeper, notching his 17th goal of the season. Minutes later, Chris Morales found his brother Matthew Morales, whose shot on target was just out of reach of the Crusader keeper. The score was level with just minutes remaining, and the match ended in a draw, securing the Minutemen’s position at the top of the conference table. Maranatha will be back at home hosting Heritage Christian on Tuesday, February 6th. Kickoff is 5:30pm.
