Maranatha hosted Campbell Hall on Wednesday, and a light rain fell as the early evening match got underway. Both sides had chances in the first half, and it looked like the Vikings would capitalize on a penalty kick off a foul in the box with just ten minutes left before the break, but Minutemen keeper Reese Turknette held his line and agilely blocked the shot. Campbell Hall would strike first however, off a corner kick just before halftime. After the restart, Maranatha reorganized and went to work, repeatedly testing the Viking back line. Their persistence paid off in the 77th minute, when center back Eric Chang drove a through ball deep into the Campbell Hall defensive half. The ball took a high bounce over the head of the charging keeper, and found the foot of striker Brenton Holstein as he streaked past the Viking defenders. Holstein passed the ball into the open net and his equalizer earned the Minutemen their second draw of the season. Still undefeated in preseason play, the Maranatha record stands at 1-0-2, and the Minutemen are back in action again at home on Thursday, December 6th at 5:30pm against Palm Springs High School.
