On Saturday Maranatha opened league play with a home game against Village Christian. The Minutemen were looking to add to their winning streak, and bring their overall record back up to 500. The Crusaders struck first in the first ten minutes of play, leaving Maranatha in search of an equalizer. The deficit did not last long, however, when five minutes later, Matthew Molhatra’s cross found the head of Trey Topalian. Three minutes later, Malhotra’s cross found it’s target again, this time, the head of Brenton Holstein, in what would prove to be the game winning goal. Three minutes later, Matthew Morales beat the keeper on an unassisted shot, adding an insurance goal to the Maranatha tally. The 3 – 1 scoreline would stand at the break, and the Minutemen would score again in the second half, when Matthew Morales sent a through ball to senior captain Sam Dunn, who beat the keeper on a back post shot, earning his first goal of the season, and securing the win. Maranatha travels to Heritage Christian on Tuesday for the next league game. Kickoff is at 2:3Opm.
