The Minutemen headed to Riverside on Tuesday to face the Royals of Woodcrest Christian. Both sides were evenly matched, and each team’s keepers saw plenty of action. Maranatha struck first in the 7th minute, when midfielder Trey Topalian found the net off an assist by Moheb Samuel. Woodcrest answered with less than 10 minutes left in the half off a free kick, and the scoreline was level going into the break. After the restart, the Royals earned a penalty kick in the 57th minute and pulled ahead, but the lead only lasted for five minutes, when Maranatha earned a free kick just past half field. Defender Josh Osterman put the shot on frame, and the ball skipped through the hands of the Royals goalkeeper; the game was level again. Moments later, Woodcrest regained the lead, poking the ball past a diving attempt by senior goalkeeper Reese Turkette. The Minutemen fought back, and equalized when striker Reid Pullens sped past the Royals defense and beat the keeper near post. At the final whistle, the scoreline would remain 3 – 3, preserving Maranatha’s unbeaten record in preseason play (1-0-1). The Minutemen are in action again on November 28th at home against Campbell Hall. Kickoff is 5:30pm.
