The second matchup for Maranatha in the group stage of the San Gabriel Valley Cup was against South Pasadena. With both teams fresh off a win, the battle for the top seed in the group was on, and neither team conceded a goal in the first half of play. The second half, however, brought a flurry of goals, and the Tigers struck first. The Minutemen answered with a goal from striker Matthew Morales. His finish was assisted by Eric Chang. South Pasadena scored again, and then Morales buried a pk to keep the score level. The Tigers scored again, and with under five minutes left to go in the game, it was Eric Chang who finished a pass from his fellow striker, Morales. With a level scoreline, and only minutes left before the final whistle, the Tigers drew a foul in the box, and converted on the pk. Before the dust settled, South Pasadena would score again, edging the Minutemen, and earning the points for the win in the group stage. Maranatha has a second game later in the day against Ranch Christian, the final game in the first round of the tournament. Kickoff is at 1:30pm.
