Maranatha hosted Whittier Christian on Friday, looking to extend their winning streak to five. The first half belonged to the Minutemen, who produced a total of six shots, three of which were on target. One shot found its mark, when Matthew Malhotra took a free kick outside the box and beat the keeper near post, notching his third goal of the season. After the restart, Maranatha scored again, on a through ball from Brenton Holstein to Trey Topalian, who beat the keeper one on one, bringing his season goal tally to 5. Less than five minutes later, Matthew Malhotra found himself standing in front of another free kick, and buried the shot, driving the ball low and to the back post, past the diving Whittier Christian keeper. At the closing whistle, the Minutemen earned the shutout, securing their third conference win, and bringing their overall record to 7-5-3. The Minutemen are back in action on Tuesday against rival Valley Christian in Cerritos. Game time is 5:30pm.
